• The Blomes

The Blomes and The Smooms and the Impossible Bridge is about two groups of creatures who can't get along because they are so different.  Today, I want to introduce the Blomes!  These cute guys are very smart. They love to learn and invent.  They aren't worried about how things look. They are all about function.

  • The Smooms

The Smooms are creative and artistic.  Their side of the valley sparkles with bright colors and  beautiful paintings and sculptures and rings with beautiful music.  They believe anything worth doing is worth doing beautifully and to them, a world without bright beautiful colors would be no world that they would want to live in.  They don't have the inventions to make their lives easier or have fun with, but their world is beautiful!

  • "At first you're thinking this is a "stars upon thars" knock off. Keep reading. It does have a Dr Seuss feel to it, not just because it rhymes. It has that lively cadence that keeps you moving forward. You are drawn down it like a river's flowing current. Props to the author for that. It's not easy to achieve and maintain. Rhyme and flow aside, this book takes a totally different path. It is a more relatable path, I think. The blomes and smooms book contains multiple morals that can be used as teaching opportunities for young and old without actually preaching a sermon. It's very sweet and simple but gains depth with consideration. I have to mention the amazing illustrations. Kids will love exploring all the little details of what's happening in the pictures. The illustrations provide yet another layer for parents and children to dive into and explore. Take a little walk around these villiages and talk about the interesting details happening there. *This is where the spoilers start* I love that instead of some major chaotic incident bringing about the solution it happens in a really natural way. The kids just do what kids do and play and work together. Perhaps the greater joy comes from the adults shaking off their accustomed anger to follow the example of their children."

  • "All of my kids, ages 3, 6, 8, 11, and 12 really enjoyed this heartwarming book. The story and illustrations make this a wonderful book to read, but my favorite part (as a parent) is that the book teaches an important lesson on being prepared for the storms of life. I'm certain I'll reread this book to my kiddos many times over the coming years."
